Years ago during my stint at Playboy Magazine in LA, I used a Mary Kay Cosmetics foundation as body makeup and concealer and boy did I love it! They discontinued the shades however, and I got an attitude about "home party" makeup lines, so I didn't bother with purchasing more of the line, no matter how many of my clients said they used Mary Kay. Well, I just got a chance to use several pieces again. And I'm pleasantly surprised. Mary Kay has launched MK Signature Collection this June 2002. The collection contains a larger assortment of shades for more skin tones, contemporary all new packaging and easy to put together platinum compacts that store foundation, blush, several shadows and a lipstick. To change colors, just pop one out and press in another favorite shade for the day. There's plenty of eye, cheek and lip shades to choose from, as well as foundations, powder, concealer and bronzing beads. $18 with a retractable big bronzing brush $10. The prices won't uproot your pocketbook either. $15 buys you a clever little tube of Oil Mattifier that when applied quickly absorbs oil for up to 8 hours. The eye shadows run about $6.50, lipsticks from $12 and dual finish foundation $14. Take another look at Mary Kay. You'll like what you see.

There's a new guy in town getting some great publicity and rightly so. Naieem Abdool, the founder of Paint Cosmetiques travels around the country promoting this well done, artistically clean line of cosmetics. Paint Cosmetiques is nicely packaged and packs a good punch in the "Gotta Have" department. My favorite is a little duo compact lip and cheek tint called Ragdoll. Use your finger to dot it on and blend it in for a really natural berry tint. Their face sticks (my favorite is a lip, cheek eye gloss called Ballet) goes on smooth and blends in with just the right amount of tint. A loose gold powder for summer is Diamond Dust , and my newest favorite eye liner is actually an eye shadow Nehru, a dark navy. Wet an eyeliner brush and apply to the upper lid, or dot between the lashes. It goes on almost shimmery. Paint Cosmetiques can be found at (800) 600.3914 or www.paintcosmetiques.com

Era Face by Classified Cosmetics is an aerosol foundation that mists color directly onto the skin as in airbrushing. I like the concept however the application takes a bit of getting used to. Don't squint (which is usually what we do when spraying our face). I found it hard even with the included headwrap to not get the foundation everywhere I didn't want it including eyelashes, lips and brows. Here's a hint for already styled hair. Instead of wrapping the hairline with the included headband - try covering the hair with a lightweight scarf instead. The foundation can be brushed out of brows and you might try leaving it on your lashes and lips as a makeup base. I had better luck with my legs, but then again, a mist of foundation ended up in the bathtub and floor. They want you to spray a small amount into your hand and apply to the undereye area with a finger. So what makes this different from using regular makeup? So, I tested it under my eyes, and the side with Era was more matte and lighter weight than the concealer I used on the other. For a matte finish, use the included puff to buff the foundation in. (although on my dryer skin Era was matte without a puff.) Normal to dry skins need a moisturizer underneath. My skin felt dry after use. The concept is good, and I really like airbrushing makeup for a pixaled effect rather then that of a heavier, greasier makeup application. 10 shades $55 enough for about 8 weeks. www.classifiedcosmetics.com
